Many a beautiful kitchen have been built on a foundation of pretty normal, neutral cabinetry. But if you ever have the opportunity to renovate a kitchen from scratch and add in something really spectacular in the realm of cabinetry, it's like a shortcut to great style.
The family bathroom. When we first moved in this bathroom had dark pink carpet which was used on the side of the corner bath as well! YUCK! The original tiles were beige with florals on it. We retiled the walls and bought some hardboard, painted it dark charcoal and then put that on the side of the bath instead. The sink was from Ikea and the units are kitchen carcasses bought from B&Q which we installed ourselves along with the extra lighting.
Akurum, offers various sizes and configurations: Orsa, a birch design; Gnosjö, with a wood-effect finish that reads almost black; and Sofielund, a laminate solution that simulates walnut (shown here). Downside: IKEA's cabinet carcasses are made of particleboard—less sturdy than typical plywood or MDF construction—and have a fiberboard backing. Finish options are relatively limited so many designers (and DIYers) have doors custom-made by companies such as Semihandmade (semihandmadedoors.com )
