On 4/1/2003, US Marines from 2nd Batt 8th Marines & 2nd Batt 1st Marines & Navy SEALs under command of the U.S. Army, staged a diversionary attack, besieging nearby Iraqi irregulars to draw them away from Saddam Hospital in Nasiriyah. An element from the Joint Special Ops Task Force 121, US Army Special Forces, USAF Pararescue Jumpers (PJs), Army Rangers, & Delta Force launched a nighttime raid on the hospital & successfully retrieved PFC Jessica Lynch & bodies of 8 other American soldiers.
Jessica Lynch received hero status after she was wounded and captured in the Iraq War. She says that was overblown. Now, the West Virginia mother gives motivational talks while continuing to grapple with physical and mental wounds that remain 12 years later. (CNN)
