### Inverse Property of Addition Math Poster

FANTASTIC book for teaching the inverse relationships between the numbers in a number sentence. Math Common Core, fact families, inverse relationships, commutative property of addition and subtraction Awesome educational website! http://www.helps4teachers.com

Here's a nice idea for teaching "turn-around facts" or the commutative property.

### Properties of Operations & Algebraic Expressions

Summarize: Commutative: the ORDER in which you add or multiply numbers doesn't matter. Associative: how you GROUP the numbers when you add or multiply doesn't matter. Same kid friendly meanings for identity (how the number still sees itself in the mirror), inverse (opposite and upside down), and distributive (break a number apart).

### Power-Point: Addition of Positive and Negative Real Number

Positive and Negative numbers are added using both the vertical and horizontal number lines; the rules of addition in algebra are introduced, as well, and students apply these rules to calculations. Properties (Closure for addition, commutative, associative, Identity, and inverse) are presented with a discussion as to how these properties relate to operations of addition.

### Foldable Properties of Numbers

Foldable Properties of NumbersThese are 3 foldables in 1. (you will need 2 pages in case you want to use the 3 of them)Page 1: One for the Commutative, Associative, and Distributive Properties.Page 2: One for Inverse properties of addition and multiplication, and one for Identity properties of addition and multiplication.Students can learn about the properties by filling in the blanks and providing their own examples.Notes for teachers with some examples are included.Pictures about how to…

Image only, but a lovely way to show number understanding.

FREE This PowerPoint slide will allow your students to match up the number properties and an example. For instance: They will have one square that says COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY OF ADDITION which they would have to match with the numerical example: 3 + (-5) = -5 + 3. This game includes the Associative Properties, Commutative Properties, Identity Property, Zero Properties, and Additive Inverse Property. I used this game as an entry in my students' interactive math journal.
