READ--Ingmar Bergman - Cries and Whispers (1972) Cries and Whispers won for best Foreign film. It had many Academy Award nominations. The late Roger Ebert gave it 5 stars. This is a great film. It is a deep film and may be difficult for some to watch. It is a landmark in film making. It is available on dvd on the Criterion Collection label.
Swedish filmmaker, writer and producer, Ingmar Bergman. His gritty, realistic films don't embrace the "feel good" style of movies that Hollywood produces. He had the courage to take on darker topics, such as death, loneliness and the anguish of the human soul. I think he was a brilliant man and adore his films. Fanny and Alexander is my favorite.
Persona (1966) “My words mean nothing to you. People like you can’t be reached. I wonder whether your madness isn’t the worst kind. You act healthy, act it so well that everyone believes you, everyone except me, because I know how rotten you are.” Dir. Ingmar Bergman
