A great post with a FREE download on how to teach idioms in the elementary classroom. A great, easy, and fun activity to do with your students! Could even be used with your middle school students as well.
Teaching Idioms? I know I'm preaching to the choir when I say that idioms are more fun than a barrel of monkeys. There is a boatload of idioms at GoEnglish.com. Beyond going over the literal meaning of such phrases as "It's raining cats and dogs!" there are many other out-of-this-world things to try. They are the cat's pajamas, so give them a whirl!
This FREEBIE has been created by Kristine Lamb @ www.livelovespeech.com.This activity includes 48 cards. Students take turns choosing cards and explaining what the idioms mean. If a student draws a "superpower" card, he/she earns an extra turn! Please leave feedback if you download =)
Idioms 'Clip and Flip' Cards contains 64 self-correcting cards to help students practice identifying idioms in a short paragraph and determining their meaning. This activity supports Common Core standards L.3.5, L.4.5, and L.5.5.
