Operation Barbarossa was the code name for Nazi Germany's World War II invasion of the Soviet Union which began on 22 June 1941. The operation was driven by Adolf Hitler's ideological desire to destroy the Soviet Union as outlined in his 1925 manifesto "Mein Kampf". "Eagles nest" Near the salt mines of Berchtesgaden is a mountain retreat called Obersalzberg ("above the salt mountain"). At the top of Obersalzberg is a house known as "Eagle's Nest." Hitler built this house and was only here 14 times on official buiness.
Actually this is May, 1939 and Hitler is merely the honored guest at a wedding. He had attended the shotgun wedding of Hermann Esser the previous month. The left photo shows Hitler’s lover, Eva Braun, peeking out from the second row.
