L'Anse aux Meadows is an archaeological site on the northernmost tip of Newfoundland. Discovered in 1960, it is the only known site of a Norse or Viking village in Canada, and in North America outside of Greenland. The UNESCO World Heritage Site highlights Viking life in North America.

Sigiriya ,Sri Lanka: King Kasyapa (477 – 495 AD) built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.
