January and February tend to be Hawaii’s wettest months. While everyone packs for fun under the tropical sun, you probably don’t have a plan for a rainy day in Hawaii. Here’s a few tips for how to have fun on vacation if the weather isn’t “cooperating”.
January: Honolulu Head to the capital as soon as winter vacations end. The holiday crowds practically evaporate, & you can often find discounts. The weather is a serious bargain, too — usually around 80 degrees, with infrequent rain. The hike up Diamond Head is lovely this time of year. Cool off with a day of snorkeling in Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, a semicircular volcanic crater where you don’t even have to swim in the knee-deep water to see spectacular tropical fish.
