ÎLES DE LOS, or loose islands. are a small archipelago off Conakry, the capital of Guinea. The name is derived from the Portuguese: Ilhas dos los Idolos or "Island of the Idols".  The 6 islands are best known for their beaches and forested interiors. They provide protection for the port of Conakry. The group are of volcanic origin and are covered with palm trees.
