The Greater Roadrunner is a large cuckoo that can outrace a human, kill a rattlesnake, and thrive in the harsh landscapes of the Desert Southwest. As they run, they hold their lean frames nearly parallel to the ground and rudder with their long tails. | text from allaboutbirds.org
Greater Roadrunner By Alan Murphy - the other thing the cartoon didn't teach me is when a Roadrunner catches its live prey, it beats the snot out of it against a rock or the ground itself to subdue it if not out right kill it!
I have seen the Greater Roadrunner moving swiftly across roads and open spaces in almost every part of Oklahoma. Greater Roadrunners eat many of the most poisonous creatures in Oklahoma, including rattlesnakes and scorpions. Males are monogamous and will bring gifts of lizards or snakes to females during courtship.
