When Holi first began, certain colors had meaning. Red-Purity, Green-Vitality, Yellow- Pious feeling, Blue- calmness and sedateness. But as time went on, more colors are involved, but have less of a meaning to certain people.
Miko are women in the service of Shinto shrines (at the biennial Sanno Festival in Tokyo).The translation of Miko is “Woman of God” (chosen by, or totally devoted to, the gods), but the closest meaning is “shrine maiden”
Tanabata (七夕, meaning “Evening of the seventh") is a Japanese star festival. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar.
Carnevale di Venezia - The Venice Carnival is now world famous. It always takes place during the ten days leading up to Shrove Tuesday. Carnival, being a pre-Lent festival, means 'farewell to meat' and is celebrated throughout Italy. It is a great excuse to don a mask and costume.
