Many believe that Christopher Columbus was the first to sail the open ocean and reach the Americas. What it not known are the numerous others who had already sailed the journey West, and those who sailed East. The Chinese once had a great fleet that was much larger than those of Europe, not just in the amount of ships, but the size as well. But with Columbus the world started its age of exploration more extensively.

What it not known are the numerous others who had already sailed the journey West, and those who sailed East. The Chinese once had a great fleet that was much larger than those of Europe, not just in the amount of ships, but the size as well. But with Columbus the world started its age of exploration more extensively.

Location: Caribbean, island between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, east of the Dominican Republic. Taíno Indians who inhabited the territory, called the island Boriken or Borinquen which means: "the great land of the valiant and noble Lord" or "land of the great lords". On November 19, 1493 Christopher Columbus discovered the island in his second voyage to the New World.   On March 2, 1917, United States granted Puerto Ricans U.S. statutory citizenship.
