1962: When David was 15 years old his friend George Underwood punched him in his left eye during a fight over a girl they both liked. They remained friends though. David stayed out of school around 8 months while doctors attempted to repair his damaged eye and while he recovered, ultimately though, his eye was left permanently dilated. The injury resulted in faulty depth perception, and there was damage to his color vision (lending to persistent brownish tones in the left eye).
