Clark Gable joined the US Army Air Corps in 1942 after Carole Lombard's death and was commissioned the same year. He made recruiting films and flew combat missions as an aerial gunner in a B-17 Flying Fortress and earned 2 metals. He was discharged as a Major after D-Day and his papers were signed by CPT Ronald Reagan in 1944.

Clark Gable's ranch house located at 4525 Petit Drive (although now the address is 4543 Tara Drive) in the hills of the Encino suburb of the San Fernando Valley (March 5, 1939). After Gable's death in 1960, his heirs sold the property to subdividers who built the Clark Gable Ranch Estates in 1973 and renamed Gable’s street Tara Drive. The original house is now 7,093 square feet and has been in the same family for decades.
