Before and After. DIY Stairway Redesign. So easy. Step 1. Remove old carpet. (This is the hardest part, try not to get poked from the old tacks. Be careful!) Step 2. Paint steps. (You can do 1 color for easy, half the time painting, or alternate 2 colors on the rise and run. I alternated white and an espresso brown paint that matches my redone furniture. Regular interior paint will do as it's just the edges that aren't walked on.) Step 3. Staple on runners. (Shown is 3 runners from Target.)
Dart Midnight Blue stair runner from Roger Oates #StairsandStripes Love this runner. Carpet on stairs is very important to me for safety. Do not want hard wood or laminate stairs. But there is already carpet cut into stairs so replace. Love this look and the colors.
If you need a hard wearing, practical carpet for a high traffic areas such as hallway and stairs then be prepared to spend more of your budget on buying a durable, resilient carpet. The Town & Country collection has a pile weight of 60oz to cushion heavy footfall, whereas 100% wool loop pile range, Avebury, uses three ply yarn to combat heavy traffic.
