Influence of African Culture in Americas- Capoeira (Martial Arts mixed with African dance)

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of martial arts, dance and music. It was created in Brazil mainly by descendants of African slaves with Brazilian native influences, probably beginning in the 16th century. It is known by quick and complex moves, using mainly power, speed, and leverage for leg sweeps. The word capoeira probably comes from Tupi, referring to the areas of low vegetation in the Brazilian interior.

jessigaivota: Even though I won’t be attending capoeira for a while (because money), that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t prepare my body for my return!I have really tight hips resulting in low kicks, so I’m going to condition myself to get into the routine of working out at home.I’ll find the motivation. I don’t know where, but I’ll find it!I’m going to start with open lizard, happy baby and pigeon. I’ll hold each position for 20 seconds and hopefully I’ll see some progress in a weeks time!
