Buddy Holly and wife María Elena on their wedding day, August 15, 1958. He asked her out two weeks after she started work as a receptionist for music publisher Peermusic. She had never been out on a date and told Holly he would have to ask her aunt for permission. Holly promptly got her aunt's permission. Five hours into their first date, Buddy handed a rose to Maria and asked her to marry him. They were married less than two months later, in Buddy's hometown of Lubbock, Texas.
Buddy Holly, 22 (1936-1959): Unlike some other stars who died young, Buddy Holly was quite looking forward to staying alive for a long time. He had already scored a bunch of hit records, he had big plans for his musical future and his wife Maria Elena was expecting their first child. Holly died in a plane crash along with Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper.
