One of the best-known British commercialised pickles or relishes, is that of Branston Pickle, a spiced vegetable mixture - and a staple for all cheese sarnies (sandwiches) and ploughmans lunches! There are many generic brands on the market now, but this is the closest set of ingredients and the most authentic taste, compared with the Original Branston Pickle recipe! Ploughman’s Pickle. A homemade version of Branston Pickle (aka “sweet pickle”), this pickle has all the flavour and crunch without the frightening amounts of sodium. It’s a sweet brown relish with small chunks of vegetables in it. Sugar and salt free, too, so it’s actually very healthy for you! #canning
Cheese and Pickle Sandwich: consists of slices of cheese (typically Cheddar) and pickle (a sweet, vinegary chutney with the most popular brand being Branston), sandwiched between two slices of bread. The inside slices of the bread may be buttered with butter or margarine, and the sandwich may include salad items such as lettuce. A popular sandwich, especially in pubs.
