BELLE follows the story of Dido Elizebeth Belle, biracial daughter of Admiral Sir John Lindsay and an enslaved woman named Maria Belle. Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield and his wife, Belle's lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the color of her skin prevents her from fully participating in the traditions of her social standing. // dir. by Amma Asante, 2014.
Omg, I was obsessed with this movie when I saw the trailer, then it was in theaters in my busiest month for soccer which totally sucked, so I had to wait until last week to watch it, and now, I've watched three times and I LOVE IT(with every breath I breathe. Yes, I just made that reference)!
Cousins Dido Elizabeth Belle, left, and Lady Elizabeth Murray in the painting that inspired the script for the new movie '"Belle," about a biracial woman raised as a beloved member of an aristocratic family in 18th-century England. Her loving relationship with her her great-uncle, the Lord Chief Justice of England, influenced his rulings that led to the abolition of slavery in the British Empire. The painting hangs in the Murray family home, Scone Palace in Scotland.
