Air Force Capt. James M. Steel, 29, of Tampa, Florida. Died April 3, 2013, serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Assigned to 77th Fighter Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. Died near Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, when the F-16 he was piloting crashed. U.S. Air Force officials said Capt. Steel was returning to base from a mission when he crashed on final approach to land. There were no reports of enemy activity in the area at the time. The accident is under investigation.

First snow at Bagram. First measurable snow of the 2013-2014 winter covered the U.S. aircraft based at Bagram airfield, in Afghanistan on Dec. 29, 2013.Snow accumulated on A-10s, C-130s , C-17s, and F-16s but the snowstorm did not stop flying activities at the largest U.S. airbase in Afghanistan.
