Monika Steiner is an artist and sculptor. She lives in Fairfax, CA. Monika Steiner was born in 1972 in Gysenstein, Switzerland. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and Teaching Credential at the University of Bern, and became a teacher at Bönigen elementary school. In 2000 Steiner moved to the United States where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Sonoma State University. Her art at this time dealt with her internal struggles, such as the difficulty of experiencing and adapting to culture shock.
The distinction between a fine arts degree, or a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and an art degree, or a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences in art, can be confusing. The difference lies in the degree programs' emphases: The B.F.A. is a professional degree that trains students in a particular art form, whereas the B.A. or B.S. in art is a liberal education degree.
Many of the nation’s best art colleges are located on the East Coast, including nine of the top fifteen schools in US News and World Report’s 2008 rankings of fine arts graduate schools. These schools also offer outstanding undergraduate degree programs. Professional art schools award Bachelor of Fine Arts ( BFA) degrees to undergraduates, while art schools within larger universities often offer Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees.
