The bomber jacket is outerwear royalty. It appears everywhere from catwalks to high street boutiques to its natural habitat of small army surplus stores. With such a broad following, it’s no surprise then that today’s bombers come in all sorts varieties, and are styled in all manner of ways.
Reading Sunset online, we came across Berkeley stylist George Dolese's tip that he buys inexpensive, high-quality wool blankets. . . at an army surplus store. That's something that had never occurred to us, but when we did some searching, we came up with these great Swiss Army Blankets and Italian Wool Blankets (see photo of Swiss blankets below the jump). Vera Neumann (1907–1993) (born Salaff) married Austrian George Neumann, she was an American artist and entrepreneur. during WWII, Vera was in search of alternative materials. She came across some parachute silk at an army surplus store, it was the beginning of her scarf business. She kept her signature on art transferred to the scarves, creating the first signature scarf . "Vera scarves" became immediately popular.
