Andy shows his scars - he was shot on June 3, 1968 by Valerie Solanas, the author of the SCUM Manifesto, a separatist attack on men and a marginal member of Warhol's Factory group. Andy barely survived and suffered physical effects for the rest of his life. Art critic Mario Amaya was also shot in the incident and suffered minor injuries.
