Andre the Giant

Andre the Giant

Andre the Giant had acromegaly. He was 7'4'' and was 520 lbs at his top weight. He developed joint and heart problems, and died of heart failure at age 46, several days after the death of his father. Fun fact: neighbor Samuel Beckett, the playwright, drove him to and from school, because Andre couldn't fit in the school bus seats.

Andre the Giant, though it would've been easy with his size, never hurt a living soul in his life. He was always gracious and more concerned with others. And yet we learn that he was in almost constant pain from his overburdened frame. He is my hero, because the fact that he was the greatest friend anyone could have even though he himself had plenty to deal with inspires me.
