Victor Pasmore (1908-1988) I British artist and architect I He pioneered the development of abstract art in Britain in the 1940's and 1950's I Beginning in 1947, he developed a purely abstract style under the influence of Ben Nicholson and other artists associated with Circle, becoming an influential figure of the revival of interest in Constructivism in Britain following the War

Mondrian's Trees My favourite series of paintings. Love the point between representation and abstraction and the still painterly style.

Russian French artist Nicolas de Stael was a painter known for his use of a thick impasto and his highly abstract landscape painting. Evolving his own highly distinctive and abstract style, which bears comparison with the near-contemporary American Abstract Expressionist movement, and French Tachisme, but which he developed independently of them. Typically his paintings contained block-like slabs of colour, emerging as if struggling against one another across the surface of the image.
