Army Spc. Rudolph R. Hizon Died February 28, 2011 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom 22, of Los Angeles; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.; died Feb. 28, in the Charkh district of Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device.
Army SGT. Jerry R. Evans Jr., 23, of Eufaula, Alabama. Died August 7, 2009, serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Assigned to 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York. Died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Sayed Abad, Afghanistan.
Originally activated as the 10th Light Division (Alpine) in 1943, the division was redesignated the 10th Mountain Division in 1944 and fought in the mountains of Italy in some of the roughest terrain in the country. This stencil was used on both WW2 and Korean War Helmets.
