INSTRUCTION: Oral language is a strong predictor of future literacy success. Children say the word way before they can read the word. Therefore, if they do not have the proper language, particularly ELLs, reading success may be limited. By stating the name of an object and the context in which it is used in, provides children with the word and use of the object. A fun little game to promote the child's oral language! Extension: have the child provide you with the object's name and clues!

INSTRUCTION: This lesson is an interactive activity to promote oral language among young grades. It is an engaging lesson that provides opportunity for teachers to model positive oral communication and work with students both individually and in small groups. This is an effective strategy as it allows students to practice informal conversation related to their interests and provides students with foundational confidence to move forward and participate in oral communication specific to academics.
