This scene from peter pan is using lighting to direct where the audiences attention should be. The brighter white light in the middle of the room suggests that the focus should be directed to the window rather than the darker blue light being used on the sides of the stage. the darker blue light suggests that the audiences attention should be focused else where.
This picture gives a good example of stage lighting direction. The spotlight being shone on the performer on stage gives the audience something/someone to put all there focus on without having to worry about missing anything important because the lighting is making it obvious as to what they are suppose to be looking at.
