Imagen: Dog Breeds, Saarloos Wolfhound
The Saarloos Wolfhound was developed by Leendert Saarloos in the Netherlands in the 1920s in an attempt to improve the trainability of the German Shepherd by introducing genetics of the Canadian timber wolf. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the introduction of wild wolf blood did not improve trainability, but the breed was officially recognized in 1975. It is still rare. The Saarloos retains a wolf-like shyness & is not recommended around children nor frequent strangers. It handles cold well.
