an old painting of white cliffs and boats on the water
The Fleet Off the Coast, Beachy Head
“The Fleet Off the Coast, Beachy Head” is a painting by Samuel Atkins from the late 18th century. It shows a group of ships near Beachy Head, on the southern coast of England. Atkins was known for detailed work, and in this painting each ship is outlined. The ships, with their sails in the wind, look both grand and small in the scene. It makes me feel like I’m on a nearby bay, watching these ships and rowboats, feeling the ocean’s spray. :).
