Walking Through History - with Jasper and Angela - Okay as promised, this is how the 1620's ruff is made : 1. Cut strips of fine cotton and stitch together selvedge on selvedge. I needed 7.5 meter. Attach lace at one side. 2. On the other side make 2 parallel rows of very long stitches. If you pull them, the fabric starts to gather 3. The whole 7.5 meter needs to be gathered to 40 cm. Attach the folded neckband to one side by hand. 4. Flip over and attach the other side of the neckband to the gathers. Close also the short sides of the neckband, stitch 2 ribbons along to close the collar. 5. Mix starch with water and soak the whole thing. 6. Squeeze out the water and leave to dry completely 7. Determine the size of your figure 8's ( I count points in the lace). Run a thread through them to determine the middle of the figures. 8. Buy a large curling iron and remove the plastic cap at the end plus the clip.Spray a bit of water on the part you are working on to activate the starch. Stick the hot iron into each figure 8 and pull the fabric around it. 9. First do all bends on the topside, flip the collar and then do the other side 10. Attach the figure 8's together where they meet, with a few handstitches 11. Remove the running thread in the middle and you are done! | Facebook
