This is a kete, or woven basket, made in 1964 by Rangimāhora Reihana-Mete (1899-1993). It is woven from undyed kiekie (liana, a climbing forest plant) using the raranga (plaiting) technique, whereby strips of leaf are laid diagonally. A pair of haraheke (flax) handles are tied onto the interior. The kete is bleached, has a serrated top rim, and measures 18.5 cm x 30.5 cm.
