Meditation room at the Lama Foundation near Taos. Lama was one of more than two dozen communes established in the region in the late 1960s, along with Hog Farm, New Buffalo, and The Family. By the 1970s most communes had closed, but Lama was able to continue because it enjoyed more structure and discipline than the others. Today the Lama Foundation is a thriving spiritual community, educational facility, and retreat center. Photograph by Geraint Smith #summeroftreasures
