Horse shoe nail necklace - Gypsies traveled throughout Europe and one of their skills was blacksmithing. If a horse needed shoeing they were the ones one would go to. Gypsies also believed that anything forged in fire had magical powers. For this reason they would fashion a talisman out of horseshoe nails and hang it as a necklace around their children’s neck for protection against evil forces. So the first horseshoe nail necklace was created.
