Kokota Sandspit: When you travel north from Kaitaia along toe road to the cape you will see huge white sand dunes in the distance.  These are the silica sands of Kokota Spit. The sane is pure white and unlike most other sand that gets hot - sometimes too hot to walk on, silica sand stays cool.

Takapaukura (Tom Bowling Bay) This is the bay near North Cape where the Kurahaupō canoe, captained by Pōhurihanga, is said to have landed.
