The Brazilian treehopper is the creepiest, raddest insect you will ever see.

This is the Brazilian Tree hopper, or Bocydium globulare - a real living insect. Its other name is "The Bell Bearer"; the "Globulare" part of its Latin moniker stands for these utterly bizarre spheroids on the top (they are not antennae!

This is a juvenile planthopper. It's about 5 millimeters long. Many planthoppers secrete a waxy substance which forms into long strands. These strands, which can break off, may distract a predator while the insect escapes to safety.  This little critter is one of 60 species that Dr. Trond Larsen of Conservation International discovered documented during an expedition to a rainforest in southeastern Suriname. This troll-haired insect was found in the Suriname rainforest and is only 5 millimeters long. Its 'hair' are actually waxy secretions that could be a defense mechanism to distract predators.
