Lucile
In 1915, Lucile designed the dress in the upper left corner for a play. She included a slightly revised version in her Fall 1916 New York collection, calling it the “Happiness” dress. One copy (upper right) belongs to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The photo on the bottom is a hand-painted gelatin silver print showing a woman in Kansas City wearing another version of the dress. The main differences among the three are the sleeves and the absence of lace on the hem of the commercial version.
