InspiredToDive.com presents SALP SOUP - a short film featuring underwater videography of salps in New Zealand. Salps are translucent barrel-shaped animals that may live singly or form colonies metres long. They move through the ocean filtering plankton by pumping water through their gelatinous bodies. In spring in northern New Zealand when plankton is abundant salps may reproduce rapidly. In a couple of weeks populations can explode and transform the sea into a pulsating soup.
